Small Hand Tools Drills Bits for Precision Drilling

Drill bits are small hand tools that are used to create cylindrical holes on a piece. Drilling with the help of bits is made possible using another tool to rotate them. Such a rotation provides torque and axial force to create a hole in a piece. Bits can be of various types; for instance, some bits for non-cylindrical-shaped holes for specific purposes. These come in standard sizes and described in the drill bit sizes which corresponds with required screw tap sizes to use them.

Materials Used in Making of Drill Bits

Depending upon the use of drill bits, the raw material is used in making them; however, in most of the cases these are made using strong metals such as steel, iron, etc. For instance, in wood working the use of soft low carbon steel bits is a commonly observed practice. These are sharpened regularly so that users can use them in future. Such drill bits are, or can be used only with soft wood; hard wood needs strong drill bits. Softer the metal used in making drill bits, low the cost.
On the other hand, High speed steel (HSS) is used in making strong drill bits which are not only extremely resistant to heat but also last longer in comparison to other similar drill buts. These are used extensively in drilling the metal sheets, hardwood, etc. These are extremely suitable for drilling on hard objects that are strong and cannot be drilled using soft steel drill bits. Strong metal made drill bits are ideal for automotive sector and various commercial production of electronic equipments.

Drill Bits made using Cobalt steel alloys have edge over rest other drill bits as these can be used to drill even higher temperature; thus, these are extremely suitable for drilling in stainless steel and other hard materials or metal sheets. However, these cannot be considered suitable for the reason that these are brittle than standard HSS.

These are made using strong metals such as steel so that they last longer. Inferior quality iron used in screwdriver can rust down over time, therefore, only quality one should be used.
