What could cause a P0128 to appear in the comp and how to fix it.?
A 03′ chevy silverado comes into the auto repair shop from the local body/paint shop. P0128 code is set. Scan tool shows air temp sensor at -40 degrees and the coolant temp sensor at -40 degrees. What can cause this and how to fix it?
P0128 – Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)
Most common cause of P0128 is thermostat stuck open.
However the -40 readings are puzzling, especially the air temp. Does the water temp gauge in the dash work? I’d be willing to bet it doesn’t. Turn ignition on, check for voltage at water temp sensor harness. If voltage is present, replace water temp sensor. Check the air temp sensor also. If there’s no voltage, find out why. Maybe both sensors are on the same harness on this truck and it has become disconnected somehow?
